The outdoor area “Forest of Creation” on the west side of the museum, the museum plan to install three commissioned works, including the sculpture “i za na i 2025” by sound artist Suzuki Akio. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in the form of a performance by Akio Suzuki and Miyakita Hiromi to pray for the safe start of construction ahead of the start of construction in January 2026.
Anyone is welcome to attend, so please feel free to invite your friends and family.
JICHIN - ceremony
The commissioned artwork titled “i za na i 2025” was supposed to appear in the outdoor exhibition space of the Tottori Prefectural Museum this past March. However, both this work and those by SUPERFLEX (Denmark) and Rirkrit Tiravanija (Thailand, N.Y., Berlin) faced delays due to various circumstances. Production has finally resumed, aiming for completion next March. Momentum has built to hold the “groundbreaking ceremony” as a fun performance, which Hiromi Miyakita and I originally proposed (last June/July). The pre-written ritual prayer (norito) and items like the sacred hemp rope (oonusa) and sacred branches (shide) now have their moment. 《i za na i 2025》 was a passageway space featuring two variations of “o to da te”, consciously oriented towards the valleys of Daisen and Misasa, with steel plates flanking concrete-plated stairs.
Due to conditions, we scaled down and installed one facing the northern sky. Though the environment posed significant challenges for setup, we look forward to it becoming a new “o to da te” spot that invites thoughts of ancient San-in nature worship.
